Female First- Review of ‘Disasters: Ways To Leave a Scene’ – 21/11/2012

“Over the last year or so Broken Links have been building up a loyal fan base on the live scene and now the trio release their debut album Disasters: Ways To Leave A Scene.

And it is not hard to see why they have been winning over fans as this is a great debut record and many of these songs are designed to sound great live. There is no greater example of this than opening track Electrik – which is the perfect start to this record – as it mixes rock with a subtle electronica. The elements go so well together and there is such an epic feel to the guitars on this track that you can’t help but get swept away with it. Mark Lawrence shows just what a set of lungs he has as he delivers some powerhouse and high notes on this track. Within Isolation takes the energy up a notch as the guitars really drive this track forward almost. There is a real urgency to the song that makes it so infectious. Once again Lawrence shows off his vocal prowess on the chorus before reining himself in on the versus. What Are You Waiting For? follows a similar path and completes a fantastic opening to the album. Lawrence shows that the bottom range of his voice is just as great as the top with What Are You Waiting For? as the deep and rich tones at the beginning of the track are almost hypnotic and draw the listener in.

Disasters: Ways To Leave A Scene is such a rich sounding album from start to finish as the band injects their great rock sound with some truly infectious electronica. There is not a single weak track on this fantastic debut album and it is packed with great melodies, gritty riffs as well as some fantastic synths. All that is topped off by a great vocal performance from Mark Lawrence throughout – this is an album that will hold you attention from the first song to the very last.”
